Deadline for non-UL 2272 electric scooters to cease in public spaces to be brought forward by 6 months

Due to the spate of fire incidents for the past few months, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has decided to bring the deadline for non UL 2272 escooter to cease from using in public spaces by 6 months, from the original 2020 Dec to 2020 July.

This was announced by Senior minister of State for Transport, Dr Lam Pin Min in Parliament. Dr Lam encourages all existing non UL certified device owners to comply and change to the new UL 2272 certified devices.

UL2272 is a safety standard catered for PMDs to reduce fire hazard and increase fire safety. All devices will need to undergo stringent tests to ensure they passes all the required safety tests before it could attain the UL safety certification.

UL 2272 certified scooter will also need to be inspected from April 2020 onwards, this is to prevent tampering or modification of UL devices.

Escooter also must not weigh more than 20KG, exceed width of 70CM and has a max speed limit of 25KMH in order to be LTA compliant in Singapore.
